About

On goodreads I was notgettingenough, or NGE. Or even Not to some.

As of late March 2013, goodreads, built on the goodwishes and hard work of its supporters, sold out to Amazon. As this means I must boycott goodreads, I am posting here instead. I hope to have all my old reviews here soon and add to them, of course.

    • Well, Tuck….I’m afraid I’m doing it the hard way, cut and pasting, and fixing html when necessary. I don’t know if anybody has a quick way of doing it, but I’m quite enjoying the process of watching it all build up – and it feels much more like it is mine than it used to!

  1. yes, i heard that one could “somehow” take off all the gr entries en mas and put them somewhere else, but that could be a fairy tale. i will investigate some more and let you know if i find out anything

  2. I guess I don’t mind because I have several blogs and I enjoy watching them grow and I’m loving being independent now!

  3. I noticed on goodreads (I know, I know…) you’re based in Geneva. I’ve just moved here and was trying to see if there were any other book bloggers around. Hello!:)

  4. I felt the same way when they swallowed up the IMDb, which started out as a fan-built site. Now, of course, Bezos has swallowed the Washington Post, and looks to be making inroads on enfolding the entire Western world into “Amazon Land.” Glad I found your reviews!

    • Yes, I didn’t know IMDb in the old days, but it sounds like it really suffered in quality and the same goes for Goodreads. It is all about numbers. Technically speaking it has many million members, these days, but the quality of reviews and the books reviewed have really gone downhill. To begin with the top reviews in terms of popularity were erudite people who write really interesting and/or funny reviews, whereas now all the top reviewers get their likes from reviewing junk – or so I’m told!

I still list part of each review on GR with a link to my blog, knowing that my old GR friends won’t look at anything that isn’t hooked up to it. Sigh.

      • I don’t spend much time at GR anymore. I still keep track of my reads through the reading challenge. After I read a book, or to see if I am interested, I search for reviews. But there’s a lot of junk for sure.
I like that my friends reviews show first if they have read the book I am looking at.

    • Are we friends there Silvia? If not, please send me a request. I rarely spend time there any more, since Amazon bought it. Though I do keep it as a reference to the books I’ve read and my posts on them.

I have been very lazy about importing my reviews from when it was the only place I had them. I should start that process again.
